Keyword Research
Find winnable keywords without leaving your chat. Search volume, difficulty, CPC, intent and more.
The Keyword Research Claude skill turns picking what to write into a single conversation. Real volumes, real difficulty, real competitors. No tab-switching, no $99/month subscription.
The Problem
You're picking a topic. You open Ahrefs. Out of free lookups. You switch to Semrush. Different numbers, also gated. You fall back to Google Keyword Planner, which is technically free but gives you "10K–100K" ranges instead of an actual number. So you open Google Trends in a fourth tab to sanity-check direction. Then a fifth for SERP competitors.
By hour two you've got a half-built spreadsheet, no idea which numbers came from which tool, and you still haven't started writing. Worse, half the keywords you researched are now AI Overview targets and you didn't catch it. You're about to spend a month on a post Google is going to answer in a snippet.
This skill ends that loop. One conversation, one data source, every number you need.
What this Claude skill does
- Pulls live MSV, KD, CPC, and competition: real wholesale numbers, the same kind the big SEO suites quietly resell at retail.
- Expands a seed into 50+ related and semantically adjacent terms so you're not picking from the five that happened to occur to you.
- Surfaces the domains ranking for any term so you know who you're up against before you commit.
- Classifies intent (Informational, Commercial, Transactional, Navigational) and routes each keyword to the right content format.
- Flags AI Overview risk so you know which keywords still convert to clicks and which Google is about to swallow.
- Scores priority with a volume + difficulty + intent formula and flags the quick wins explicitly.
Why it's amazing!
- Real volumes, not Google Keyword Planner ranges.
- Cents per query, not $99/month.
- One conversation collapses what used to be four browser tabs and a spreadsheet.
- Quick wins (high volume, low difficulty) bubble up automatically. You don't have to hunt for them.
Who it's for
Anyone who writes for search. But especially SEO consultants triaging client opportunities, content strategists planning a quarter of posts, founders building organic from zero, and indie hackers picking what to ship next. Anyone who's ever lost a Saturday copying numbers from one tool into another.
How it works
Ask Claude something like:
- "Pull full keyword research on 'real estate crm': volume, difficulty, intent, the works."
- "I'm naming a habit-tracking app for busy parents. Build me a topical map: cluster the keywords, classify intent, and phase the buildout."
You'll get a clean table back:
| Keyword | MSV | KD | CPC | Intent | Trend | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| real estate crm | 2,400 | 45 | $12.50 | Commercial | → | 8 (high) |
| best crm for realtors | 880 | 38 | $9.20 | Commercial | ↑ | 8 (high) |
| how to manage real estate leads | 320 | 22 | $4.10 | Informational | → | 5 (medium) |
| real estate crm pricing | 210 | 28 | $14.80 | Transactional | ↑ | 7 (high) |
For anything you're about to actually commit to writing, Claude will flag AI Overview risk so you adjust traffic expectations before you start, and surface SERP competitors so you know what you're walking into.
Pairs well with these other skills
This skill tells you what to write about — these skills fix the foundation first and turn the keywords into actual content:
- SEO Website Audit Skill: Audit the site to fix what's broken first, then come here to find the keywords that fill the content gaps.
- Content Ideas Generator Skill: Hand it your priority keywords and get back specific content assignments mapped to your funnel.
- Competitor Teardown Skill: When the SERP competitors surface, tear down the ones outranking you to see how they position and where they're weak.
- ICP Generator Skill: Match keyword intent to a real audience's language so the content you build speaks the way they search.
FAQ
Does it cost anything to run?
Yes, we use an external API tool that's extremely affordable. We are talking pennies per query. Roughly $0.03 to $0.15 per lookup depending on what you ask for. A full deep-dive on one seed runs about 15 cents. Far cheaper than a $99/month Ahrefs or Semrush subscription, but not free.
How accurate is the data?
Very. It pulls from the same underlying sources the big SEO suites resell. You're getting wholesale data instead of a marked-up retail subscription.
Does it write the content for me?
No. It tells you what to write about and why. The writing is a separate conversation (and Claude is very good at that part too).
Can it track my rankings?
No, this is research, not rank tracking. Use Google Search Console for your own rankings. It's free and more accurate than any third party.
What countries and languages does it support?
US, UK, AU, and CA out of the box. Other markets are supported via a wide list of location codes. Most major languages work too, though data quality depends on how much Google indexes for that market.
How many keywords can I check at once?
Up to about 700 in a single batch for volume or difficulty checks. For larger lists, Claude will batch them automatically.
What about AI Overviews? Is SEO still worth it?
For some intents, less so. Pure "what is" definitions are getting eaten. For transactional, local, comparison, and complex topics, clicks are holding up. The skill flags AIO risk explicitly so you don't waste a month on a post Google is about to answer in a snippet.
Can it do competitor gap analysis?
Yes. Give it 3–5 competitor domains and a seed topic. It'll pull what they rank for, subtract what you already rank for, and score the gaps by priority.
Safe To Install
Please read before installing. Any skill you copy online is someone else's code running inside your Claude, and a lot of what's out there should give you pause. Most authors who give skills away don't give a second thought to quality or security. Most are vibe-coded slop pushed out untested, and some are the occasional bad actor hiding an exploit in plain sight. (Read about OpenClaws ClawHub security nightmare). Every skill we publish is vetted by a programmer with 20+ years of professional experience and checked line by line for anything that touches your files without reason. With Stim-Pack Studios Claude Skills, you get peace of mind knowing you're installing safe, vetted code, not a stranger's guess.
